Berkeley Path Wanderers: “Intimate Nature” Art Exhibit and Walk

Join Berkeley Art Center Executive Director, Suzanne Tan for an intimate exploration of the natural world, inspired by the Center’s idyllic setting in Live Oak Park and above Codornices Creek. The exhibition includes video installation, artists who work with ephemeral and recycled materials, and performative and interactive components that blur the physical separation of the gallery and its natural environment. The private tour of the exhibit will be followed by a leisurely walk on the historic paths near Codornices Creek.  No dogs, please.

Artists include Judith Selby Lang and Richard Lang, Kim Anno and Ricardo Rivera, Terri Friedman, Alicia Escott, Mari Andrews, and Zach Pine.

Berkeley Path Wanderers: A Trail of Four Cities

In a celebration not only of community volunteers but also global climate action, this walk will span 4 towns and involve 4 different community groups. We will start at the Rockridge BART Station where we join Paul Rosenbloom and Oakland Urban Paths on a tour of some of North Oakland’s paths. We will then hook up with Jen English and Colleen Neff in the area of Ashby and Domingo for the Berkeley leg of the trip, led by the Berkeley Path Wanderers. We’ll have lunch near the UC campus and say goodbye to anyone who wishes to make their way to the the downtown Berkeley BART station. We’ll then head to Kensington where Lorraine Osmundson of the Kensington Improvement Club will lead us over some of Kensington’s paths. We’ll then head north to El Cerrito to be intercepted by Joseph Nichols of the newly formed El Cerrito Trail Trekkers, who will cover some of the paths currently being restored by that organization. From there, we will make our way down to the El Cerrito BART station. No dogs, please.

Oct. 3 Sunday stroll, progressive party celebrates volunteer greening!

On Sunday, Oct. 3, Berkeley Partners for Parks invites you to enjoy
• A leisurely afternoon stroll or bike ride
• A progressive picnic
• Music, food, fun for all ages
Celebrate great green spaces! See how Berkeley volunteers have transformed neglected scraps of city!
We’ll start at 1 PM at Presentation Park, Allston Way and California, where residents have turned thickets into a butterfly garden and more.
At 2 PM we’ll make our way to Schoolhouse Creek Common, Virginia and Curtis. Neighbors have turned an old parking lot behind Berkeley Adult School into a flowery oasis where neighbors gather, children play, and students take breaks and relax.
At 3 PM we’ll follow the old Santa Fe Railroad route, now the Ohlone Greenway, to Westbrae Commons (along the greenway between Hopkins and Gilman). There we’ll join the annual harvest-time celebration of three community gardens, restored native coastal prairie, and whimsical to spectacular public art along the old rail corridor.
Free, all welcome! (The distance is a level 1.5 mi. one way.) Information at www.bpfp.org, Charlie_Paths@comcast.net, 540 7223.
