Parks Partnership Fund

This fund offers groups and individuals the opportunity to contribute to specified projects in parks and other green spaces in Berkeley, such as:

  • Sustainable, environmentally friendly plantings
  • Attractive pathways, fencing, or railings
  • Playground equipment, chess tables, recycling containers, benches, and other ‘furniture’
  • Interpretive signs for natural areas or sites of historic interest

Donations can be made in memory of or in honor of someone, or as a celebration of a special occasion, achievement, or milestone.

Contact Berkeley Partners for Parks by email, letter, or phone for a current list of opportunities or to discuss your idea for a project. Donations to the fund in general also are welcome — simply send a check made out to BPFP, with an indication that it is for the Parks Partnership Fund and any information as to a person or occasion that you wish to honor. The money will be used for the highest-priority projects.

Gifts will be acknowledged with a letter and a certificate of appreciation, and the City Council will recognize each year’s honorees.

All donations are fully tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Donors receive no goods or services.

Donors also receive a complementary 1-year membership in Berkeley Partners for Parks, a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation that since 1995 has served as fiscal umbrella and advisor for dozens of citizens groups working for recreation, parks, gardens, open space, restoration, and related efforts. Our track record of responsible stewardship is recognized by commissions, the City Council, and City staff.

Tilden Carousel Closed For Renovation

Kid on carouselOn January 1, 2008, the East Bay Regional Park District began a six-month construction and renovation project on Tilden Regional Park’s historic carousel. This state-of-the-art project will include the construction of an attractive yet durable weather proof enclosure to protect the popular amusement ride from deterioration from wind and fog. In addition the carousel floor will be redone and the organ refurbished. The carousel built in 1911 is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Its unique hand-painted carved animals are now all antiques. The District acquired the carousel in 1948, and it has been a popular destination for generations. The project should be complete by June 30 and will reopen to the public at that time. Read more on East Bay Regional Parks’ web site.

An introduction to the newly installed ‘interim’ homage to Cesar Chavez (i.e., a temporary four directions/four virtues art installation). The North and wisdom are common metaphors associated with Winter–as is the Tolerance needed to face the conflicts of life peacefully.

Together we will honor the process of community building and social action with short inspirational talks by Louise Dunlap and by Carl Anthonly, Linn’s friend and co-founder of Urban Habitat. Enjoy live music, refreshments and, of course, each other’s company!

Guadalupe River Tour

Please join Friends of Five Creeks Sat., Dec. 8, on a tour of the restored Guadalupe River , a 3-mile riverside parkway through downtown San Jose with gardens that use recycled water, museums, light rail, public art, some colossal flood-control structures and some beautiful natural reaches. Started as a standard flood-control project, this work was halted for several years by environmental protest and redesigned–though perhaps not enough–to protect trout and salmon. Mostly completed in 2004, it now has lost its bare, just-built look. Friends of Guadalupe River Park and Gardens will lead us on a two-hour tour 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. We’ll have lunch and then continue on our own. The cost is a $10 per person donation to Friends of the Guadalupe River Parkway plus lunch and help with gas for the carpool driver.
